Tom’s Campaign Is Under Way!

The window for challenges to candidate’s nominating petitions has closed and no one has filed a challenge to my nominating paperwork! Many people experienced in local politics were convinced that my nominating petitions would come under attack. This did not happen and it’s a huge relief – we don’t have to waste time and money on defending our petitions.

Because so many volunteers hit the streets and we were able to turn in three times the minimum number of signatures required for the position of Cook County Board President, it’s thought that any potential challengers were dissuaded from embarking on an objection that was bound to fail. So – THANK YOU to all the volunteers who made this happen.

Now we can focus on the campaign.

As you may recall, I’ve been fighting the Chicago Machine since 1990 and have spent the last two years almost full-time taking on the Machine – first to protect Lincoln Park from privatization, then to stop the 2016 Olympics from bankrupting the city and destroying our public parks. I’m running now for Cook County Board President to reclaim our local government from the ruling families that treat it as their own private ATM – dispensing cash, contracts and favors to relatives and insiders.

If elected, I intend to focus on three major initiatives:

(1) Eliminate waste from the county government.
(2) Restore trust in county government.
(3) Deliver world class service from county government.

As the campaign progresses, I will expand and develop each of these themes. We will have policy teams and citizens’ research teams adding wisdom and background to our policy initiatives.

But the first thing we need to do is – can you guess – raise funds to fuel the campaign. Cook County is large and this is going to be a county-wide campaign that will require significant resources to be effective. In addition, this is to be a citizen-driven effort and the campaign will accept NO CONTRIBUTIONS FROM CORPORATIONS OR ORGANIZATIONS.

We will need to raise $100,000 to get started. I’d like to do this by asking 1,000 of my campaign’s supporters to donate at least $100.00 each.The only way this campaign will happen is if you help pay for it.
