In the March issue of “Illinois Issues” editor Dana Huepel bemoans the miserable state of Illinois’ finances and politics: Shouldn’t the collection of lawyers, business owners, insurance agents and other well-educated professionals who pose as our elected representatives be able to figure out that not paying your bills — creating havoc and untold harm for constituents [...] On February 23, Democrats advanced Illinois House Bill 6000, which would limit potential challengers in future aldermanic elections in Chicago. The Chicago Tribune today ran a front page investigation of Illinois Democratic Party Chairman Michael Madigan headlined “The Madigan Rules” which shows how he abuses his office to benefit his law firm’s clients. In a story headlined “Political brawl brewing on Southwest Side,” she reports on the challenges to two Machine stalwarts, Cook County Commissioner Joseph Moreno (7th District) and State Representative Dan Burke (23rd District) the influence of Speaker [...] One year ago the governor of Illinois was arrested on charges of systematic corruption. The U.S. Attorney accused the governor of masterminding “A political crime spree.” Besides massive corruption and the selling of state offices and awarding of contracts to friends and cronies, Blagojevich was also accused of auctioning off the Senate seat vacated by [...] I spent the day at the Cook County Clerk’s office going over Sean Burke’s signatures one by one with him present. He came very casually dressed and with no documentation or apparent preparation. I was with Alberto Bocanegra, the chair of the Cook County Green Party.
